ws nach links version 2What is the Dorn Therapy?

The Dorn Therapy is a manual treatment which intends to carefully adjust malpositions of vertebrae and joints. Such malpositions may occur due to one-sided strain, poor posture or psychological stress, and can cause pain or restrictions in movement. The Dorn Therapy intends to loosen this muscle tension and softly reposition the interspinales and joints. This procedure is done without force and is therefore different to chiropractic treatment. Depending on the patient´s symptoms, he is shown adequate self-help exercises which are to be carried out for a certain period of time after the treatment. These exercises are very important and should be sustained in order to prevent further malpositions of vertebrae and joints.

History of Dorn Therapy

This therapy goes back to Dieter Dorn (1938-2011). He owned a sawmill in the south of Bavaria and in 1973 he injured his back while lifting a tree trunk. It was the farmer Josef Müller who helped him with an effective manual technique. Dieter Dorn was so fascinated by this treatment that he decided to learn this method himself. Since Josef Müller died quickly from serious illness, Dieter Dorn had to work hard to find out the remaining parts of the method by himself. However his success spread rather quickly. Due to many treatments Dieter Dorn could refine his technique and integrate the philosophy of the Chinese meridians (energy pathways), which took the connection between spine and organs into consideration. For example, headaches can correlate with the cervical spine or stomach aches with the thoracic spine. Dieter Dorn picked up more and more medical knowledge about the spine and fine-tuned his therapy. Together with the surgeon and orthopaedist Dr. med. Thomas Hansen he gave presentations about his treatment which spread to other European countries and even to Australia.
